Mottainai: Too Good To Waste
Mottainai is Japanese and means “too good to waste”. The term conveys a sense of regret over waste and has been used by environmentalists to encourage people to “reduce, reuse and recycle”. The style is called Boro, an ancient Japanese tradition. Boro means “born out of necessity” and is a form of patchwork. Making do of something we already have used and loved and mending it into something completely new.
